Celebrating Cello: A Journey Through Silence to Sound

The J.M Mouskos Foundation were delighted to support Dr Kate Kennedy in the launch and promotion of her book, Cello: A Journey Through Silence to Sound.

The evening celebrated Kate’s exploration of the cello through the extraordinary musicians, instruments and stories that have shaped its history – bringing together music, storytelling and a shared passion for preserving musical heritage.

The J.M Mouskos Foundation congratulates Dr Kate Kennedy on her extraordinary journey to rediscover the long-lost cello of Pál Hermann, the Jewish-Hungarian cellist and composer who was murdered during the Holocaust, bringing a remarkable musical story back to life.

More than 80 years later, Hermann’s daughter Cornelia was reunited with her father’s instrument and heard his music performed on it once again. The remarkable story was subsequently recognised by the European Parliament, where Cornelia paid tribute to her father and the journey that brought his music and memory back to life.
